After a failed attempt 11 years earlier, the BBC has launched an Arabic channel. The new satellite service employs around 200 people. That's strange, didn't they just fire 200 World Service radio employees? Hopefully this crew won't jump ship to al-Jazeera like the last bunch.

Yo! MTV Wraps

In the battle for hearts and minds in the Middle East, the United States media establishment has unleashed its biggest weapon: MTV. MTV Arabia has launched in the United Arab Emirates and features subtitled American MTV programming as well as locally produced fare. Get ready for Real World Abu Dhabi premiering this summer.
